A brand new comedy has been a recent hit on Amazon Prime. “Marvelous Mrs. Masiel” follows the life of a housewife in the 1950s after her life turns upside down.

The show opens with Mrs.Masiel (Midge)’s husband confessing that he had an affair and is leaving her after a failed comedic show.

Midge flees to her parents’ house, where her parents blame her for marrying her husband in the first place. Midge, upset, leaves and winds up at a comedy show. She gets onstage and is an instant success.

Following her success, Midge decides to pursue comedy. In the 1950s, a woman doing comedy was almost unheard of. Midge decides to take on the challenge with some help from people she meets along her road to stardom.

The first season consists of eight episodes, each about one hour in length.

The show stars Rachel Bronsnahan, Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, and Marian Hinkle.

Written by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show was met with much anticipation. The show was produced by Sherman-Palladino and her husband Danoiel Palladino.

The series won two Golden Globe awards after its first season. The series won Best Television Series-Musical or Comedy and Best Actress-Musical or Comedy for Bronsnahan.

According to Rotten Tomatoes the show has received a 96 percent approval rate with the average score being an 8.2/10.

The music in the show was composed by Sam Phillips and Eric Gorfain.

The series has been picked up for season two which does not have a release date yet.
