NBC added a new show to its fall lineup, New Amsterdam. The show focuses on New Amsterdam’s newest medical director, Max Goodwin, and his quest to reform healthcare.

Goodwin’s goal to increase the standard of patient care stems from his sister’s untimely death. She lost her life due to a hospital-acquired illness she caught as a child.

As his first move as medical director, he fired the cardiac surgery department because he did not want any department that placed billing over patient care.

His quest is met with skepticism and criticism. Despite this he perseveres and meets some allies along the way.

The cast includes names like Janet Montgomery, Ryan Eggold, and Jocko Sims. The show is the first time collaborating for most of the actors and the chemistry seen on the screen cannot be ignored.

The inspiration comes from the oldest public hospital in the United States: Bellevue Hospital in New York City. The world inside the hospital is based on Eric Manheimer’s memoir about the 15 years he served as medical director.

Manheimer’s memoir gave the writers an inside look at one of the greatest hospitals in the United States, which makes for interesting content for the show.

About 96 percent of Google users liked the show so this show might stick around for awhile.

Fans are anxious for the rest of the season and the producers have high hopes given the initial feedback.
