Scientists at NASA recently announced for the first time that flowing water exists on Mars seasonally.  Many speculate that there could be life.

Officials from NASA originally claimed that the likelihood of life on Mars, but now officials are exploring the possibility more in depth and publicly.

“This is tremendously exciting,” James L. Green, the director of NASA’s planetary science division said.  “We now have, I think, great opportunities in the right locations on Mars to thoroughly investigate [if life exists beyond Earth].  I can’t imagine that it won’t be a high priority in the scientific community.”

Modern water on Mars is more similar to damp soil, as opposed to what scientists theorize that it had billions of years ago, such as rivers and lakes.

Scientists identified waterlogged-molecules in a photo showing streaks.

Liquid water on Mars is seasonal; it only appears in the summer.  Mars in the winter season have a temperature of -70 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas in the summer, temperatures rise to about 70 Fahrenheit, the same temperature of Florida in the winter.

It is still unclear as to where the water came from.
