Manila envelopes can be seen at school, in doctor’s offices, and around the house, but what are they made of?

Manila paper, which is used to make the envelopes, was originally produced in the Philippians. Its name comes from manila hemp, a relative of the banana that grows in the Philippines area.

Who would have known that paper could come from a banana?
