Swans, animals mentioned in many myths and fairy tales, are very protective of their babies. A swan lays, on average, three to eight eggs at a time. These eggs will take 34 days to hatch. During this time, the swan rarely strays from its nest. The natural world is filled with various predators, so a mother swan will do everything in her power to protect the fragile eggs.
