Many students anxiously await their 18 birthday. Most students turn 18 either during senior year or within a couple months before or after.

“My birthday was November 26th and it was fun,” senior Nicole Rosario said. “I went shopping and got my nails done.”

While there are some privileges that come with being 18, the legal age of adulthood, some seniors don’t think there is that much of a difference between being 17 or 18 in high school, especially during that final year before college.

“I don’t feel any different,” senior Sarah Wetmore said.

Some privileges include driving alone, signing for yourself, legally being an adult, and more independence in general. Being an adult comes with adult responsibilities too, however.

“It’s more responsibility,” senior Leon Harris, who turned 18 last November, said.

Harris and Wetmore both don’t think there is much of a difference.

There are many birthdays considered major that people look forward to such as their 10th, 13th, 16th, 18th, 21st, and sometimes even 50th. Students expecting to wake up on their 18th birthday suddenly feeling like an adult might be slightly disappointed, however.

“I thought it would be and then I turned 18 and it wasn’t that big,” said senior Kendra Oetker, whose 18th birthday was last February.

Compared to 18, Harris, Wetmore, Oetker, and Rosario, all think that 21 is a bigger birthday. They will all be graduating in June and going to college next school year.
